Introducing: Armin Falkenheim

Armin Falkenheim (Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club - Bayern e.V)
  • Who are you and what do you do?

I am honorary chairman of the Bavarian Section of the German Bicycle Club (ADFC) since 2018, I was chairman for 19 years and see myself as a bicycle lobbyist, I do this as a volunteer. My main job is to manage the department “schools, sports and culture” in the Augsburg District Office. I graduated with a degree in administration (Dipl. Verwaltungswirt (FH)).

  • What is your favorite story about joy of movement?

Active mobility! I got to know the campaign "Cycle to work" 2000 at the Velo City Conference of the Danish bicycle club. I started this campaign 2001 in Bavaria and then in Germany as a joint action of ADFC and the German health insurance AOK. In 2018 we had 243.000 participants in a lot of companies. This campaign is the oldest and largest campaign in Germany that promotes active mobility on the way to work.

  • What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

To fight for better bicycle paths in the city as a bicycle activist more than 30 years ago.

  • What would you tell your younger self?

Get involved, be politically active and find partners for your ideas to get engaged together, for more people to walk and cycle, for cities worth living in, more climate protection and a healthy lifestyle through active mobility.

  • How can we use joy of movement to change the world?

Let's go see Copenhagen: They have been encouraging cycling for a long time. Already more than 40 percent of people in Copenhagen prefer cycling to cars. By 2025, Copenhagen should be a CO2-neutral city. Traffic makes a decisive contribution - more cyclists, fewer cars. But Amsterdam and Utrecht are also encouraging in the same way.

  • If SINN-i could do one thing, what would it be?

As Fozzy writes: Put May, Sanchez, Abe, Ramaphosa and Merkel on a conference bike to discuss how to promote physical activity in our five countries.
